The Talent Management and its importance to the organization

What is "Talent" under HRM concepts?

The "Talent" refers to a collection of abilities, skills, knowledge, experience, and potential of the employees that majorly contributes to the success of the entire organization. In addition to the above basic components, the problem-solving skill and strategical decision-making ability, creativity, leadership skills, and personal relationship skills of the employees are also included in the "talent"

Therefore, in the modern HRM aspects, Talent Management has become one of the most important subcomponents as, the multi-talented employees can drive the organization towards its success better than the old-school employees who are highly concerned with their assigned job roles only.

So what is Talent Management?

The AIHR (Academy to innovate HR) has defined the Talent Management concept. So let us focus on what they have showed:

"Talent management encompasses all HR processes and strategies to attract, develop, motivate, and retain high-performing employees. The primary aim is to drive performance through integrated people management practices."

What are the Key Components that come under Talent Management?

Talent Acquisition

The selection, recruitment and hiring of the skilled and suitable employees through strategic selection processes.

Talent Development

Providing career growth opportunities and benefits through training, mentoring, engaging and enhancing the skills of the employees.

Performance Management

Evaluating the performances and achievements of the employees through goal setting & feedbacks, surveys, and performance-records investigations.

Talent Retention

Talent Retention is one of the key components that come under talent management. If any organization fails to retain their talents after enhancing the skills, the talented employees tend to seek opportunities at other organizations, and it will then increase the employee turnover and cost of re-hiring the suitable employees.

Therefore, the main objective of talent retention is implementing strategies to retain top talent in the organization while reducing employee turnover.

Planning the Succession

Under this component, the employees should be studied and then suitable employees who are capable of becoming future leaders must be identified. Such employees must be prepared by the HRM department to make them the successors of the organization in the future.

What are the benefits of Talent Management?

Talent management is really important for any organization as If, any organization loses its talent and only retains the talentless workforce, the organization loses the ability to reach its expected goals and objectives.

The talent management provides many benefits to the organization, and we can sum them up as follows:

Enhancement of Employee Engagement

When talent management is strategically done, it will improve employee engagement and support to bring the best out of the employees.

Improvement of the performance of the organization

Due to talent management, the talented workforce of the organization brings the best outcome and it leads to improve the overall performance of the organization.

Reduction of turnover cost

Due to strategic talent management, the organization gets the opportunity to retain their valuable talents. As talented employees are satisfied in their jobs, they do not think of moving to any other organizations, and finally, it will reduce the employee turnover ratio and the cost.

Strengthening the organizational reputation and employer branding.

Due to strategic talent management, the reputation of the organization increases, and it is highlighted in the market. Hence, the organization gets the ability to attract more talented employees from the market, and it will further improve the overall talents of the organization.

What are the negative outcomes of poor Talent Management?

When there is a poor talent management in the organization, the following negative outcomes can be occurred and here they are listed for your consideration.

  1. High Employee Turnover and increasing cost
  2. Reduction of employees productivity and engagement
  3. Poor Leadership and negative outcomes
  4. Problems related to succession planning
  5. Increasing cost of recruitments and training
  6. Bad effects on reputation.

SUMMARY

Considering all the above facts, we can summarize that the Talent Management is a secret force that drives the organization towards success in this modernized era. Having a sufficient labor force is not enough if it does not consist sufficient talents.
